Closing The Gap

Mar 15, 2026    Pastor Ron Hamilton

This powerful message centers on the transformative practice of closing the gap between ourselves and God through radical honesty and authentic communication. Drawing from the lives of Moses, Gideon, David, and Zacchaeus, we're reminded that our true identity isn't found in our failures, fears, or false self-perceptions, but in who God declares us to be. The sermon explores the crucial distinction between complaining and lamenting—while complaining keeps us stuck in the wilderness, biblical lamenting becomes a pathway from pain to renewed trust in God. Through David's seven laments found throughout the Psalms, we discover that being honest with God about our confusion, abandonment, fear, betrayal, sin, and overwhelming sorrow isn't a sign of weak faith but rather faith moving toward hope. Isaiah 61 promises that when we bring our deepest grief to God, He exchanges our ashes for beauty, our mourning for gladness, and grants us a new identity—a garland instead of the old headdress of shame. The message challenges us to stop trying to figure everything out through our own trinity of 'me, myself, and I' and instead enter into conversation with the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit who dwell within us. As we practice this transparency with God, He reveals the treasures of darkness and hidden wealth of secret places, calling us by our true name and positioning our feet in a large place of freedom and purpose.
