The Holiness that God gives

May 31, 2026    Dr. Ron Hamilton

This powerful message challenges us to rethink everything we thought we knew about holiness. Drawing from Ephesians 1 and the transformation of the Apostle Paul—a former terrorist who persecuted Christians—we discover that holiness isn't about external performance or behavioral checklists. Paul, who was steeped in legalism as a Pharisee of Pharisees, encountered Jesus on the Damascus road and was completely transformed by understanding his identity as a beloved son of God. The nine sonship gifts—chosen, holy, blameless, adopted, accepted, redeemed, forgiven, given an inheritance, and sealed with the Holy Spirit—became the foundation of his new life. True holiness flows from intimacy with God, not from trying harder or impressing others with religious performance. When we focus on external behavior and comparison with others, we miss the entire point: holiness is relational, not transactional. It's about closing the gap between us and God, running to Him rather than away from Him when we struggle. The Pharisees in John 5 had missed seven critical elements—they'd never heard God's voice, never sensed His presence, didn't have His word abiding in them, lacked faith, wouldn't come to Jesus, had no love of God in themselves, and sought glory from each other instead of from God alone. We're invited to a different path—the highway of holiness described in Isaiah 35, where joy and gladness replace sorrow, where we walk intentionally toward God rather than wandering aimlessly. This is the radiant, attractive holiness that draws others to Christ.
